Tipsi Privacy Policy

Tipsi ("we", "our", "us") operates the tipsi mobile app. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you use tipsi.
Information we collect
Account information
When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your account identifier and, if you choose to provide it, your display name and email from the identity provider. You may also set a username, display name, bio, home city, and profile photo.
Location
With your permission, we use your device location to show bars near you on the map and to sort search results by proximity. Location is used while the app is in use.
Contacts (optional, disabled in v1 by default)
If you enable contact sync, we hash phone numbers on your device and compare those hashes to hashed phone numbers stored by other users to suggest friends. We do not upload your raw contact list.
Usage and content you create
We store bars you rank, notes, comparisons, follows, saved bars, likes on feed items, and bars you add to the catalog.
Diagnostics
If enabled, we use Sentry to collect crash reports and error logs to improve app stability. Mapbox may collect anonymous map usage telemetry as described in Mapbox's privacy policy.
Product analytics
If enabled, we use PostHog to understand how the app is used — for example which screens you visit, and product actions such as signing in, completing onboarding, viewing a bar, logging a rating, following a user, using filters, or sending an invite. This helps us measure activation and retention and improve the product. We attach your tipsi user id to these events so we can analyze funnels and retention, but we do not send other personal information (such as your name, email, or contacts) to our analytics provider.
How we use information
We use information to:
- Provide ranking, social, and discovery features
- Authenticate you and maintain your account
- Show relevant bars and friend activity
- Moderate user-generated content and enforce our Terms
- Improve reliability and fix bugs
How we share information
We use service providers to operate tipsi:
- Supabase — database, authentication, file storage
- Mapbox — map tiles and location services
- Sentry — crash and error monitoring (when configured)
- PostHog — product analytics (when configured)
We do not sell your personal information.
Your choices
You can update your profile, unfollow users, delete ratings, and delete your account in Settings. Account deletion permanently removes your profile and associated data subject to legal retention requirements.
Data retention
We retain data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete associated profile data. Backup copies may persist for a limited period.
Security
We use industry-standard measures including encrypted transport (HTTPS/TLS) and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Children
Tipsi is intended for users 21+ in the United States. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 21.
Changes
We may update this policy. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
